CUNY Hostos Community College Chemistry Professor Daniel Amarante, PhD

Daniel Amarante, PhD, has served as an assistant professor of chemistry at CUNY Hostos Community College in the Bronx since 2024. His duties in this position involve the development and presentation of introductory chemistry courses for an array of health science and STEM students. His courses blend evidence-based pedagogies with inclusive practices and real world applications. Professor Daniel Amarante has centered his academic efforts on the modernization of general chemistry laboratory instruction through the emphasis of data-driven modules, AI-powered learning tools, and hands-on research experiences.

Daniel Amarante teaches several classes at the college, including General Chemistry I and II and Introduction to Chemistry, which serve as foundational courses in the college’s nursing, dental hygiene, and allied health programs. In addition to teaching courses and curriculum development, his responsibilities as an assistant professor include mentoring students and providing various departmental services. Outside of teaching, he has published numerous papers in venues such as Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry Letters and Inorganic Chemistry.

Professor Amarante holds a doctorate in chemistry from Stony Brook University. He was GAANN Fellow and recipient of the Chemistry Award for Advanced Graduate Student Teaching Assistants during his doctorate studies. He has additional awards during his career, including the 2025 IDEAS Grant and the 2025-2026 ADELANTE Research Grant at Hostos.
